The point is the long, exposed drag of the Bogong High Plains, where the road unspools toward a summit at 1,643 metres and the gum-lined switchbacks give way to open alpine country. This is climbing that asks for patience and pacing rather than raw peak numbers.

Chase variety and you get it. Cunninghams Gap delivers a shorter, sharper effort through rainforest-shaded hairpins, while Pandoras Pass trades scenery for grind, a test of legs and resolve on quieter roads. Come for the space, the light, and the sense that you can ride for hours without meeting a soul. It is worth the trip precisely because the climbs feel earned, not stacked with hype — just tarmac, gradient, and a lot of sky.
