Landa wins Vuelta Stage 20 as Mas secures overall victory

Landa makes the decisive move

Mikel Landa won Stage 20 of the 2026 Vuelta a España after attacking clear on the brutally steep Collado del Alguacil. On a climb described by the source as brutally steep, that kind of move matters because it points to a race decided less by positioning games and more by who could still produce a decisive acceleration under pressure.

For Landa, the stage win is framed as a veteran performance - a rider able to turn a hard mountain finale into a clean separation from the rest of the race. The key point is not just that he won, but where he won: on terrain severe enough to make any successful attack highly selective.

Mas finishes the GC job

Behind Landa, Enric Mas defended the red jersey and secured overall victory. That is the bigger race consequence. Stage 20 did not just produce a mountain-stage winner; it confirmed the final shape of the Vuelta, with Mas protecting his lead on the race’s decisive climbing ground.
