Anne Knijnenburg won the 2026 Tour of Chongming Island, finishing first overall ahead of Sofie Van Rooijen in second and Tamara Dronova in third.

That final podium came from a compact three-day WorldTour race built entirely around flat terrain. Across 348 kilometres and three stages, the route offered no summit finishes and no listed climbing stage, which meant the GC was always likely to be shaped by execution on flat roads rather than a single selective climb.

How the race was shaped

Stage 1 started and finished at Chongming New City Park over 110.4 kilometres, with Lorena Wiebes taking the win on the opening flat stage. In a race with limited terrain-based separation, that first day mattered because it immediately put pressure on the overall contenders to avoid losing position in what was structurally a sprinter-friendly environment.

Stage 2, a 129.4-kilometre flat stage from Changxing to Chongming New City Park, again went to Wiebes. Back-to-back stage wins on the first two days reinforced the central tactical theme of the race: there was no mountain stage to reset the hierarchy, so consistency and control on flat stages carried outsized GC value.

The final stage returned to the Chongming New City Park circuit for 108.6 kilometres. With the profile again listed as flat and no summit finish on the route, Knijnenburg's overall victory reflects the kind of race where the decisive work is less about one visible climbing attack and more about repeated positioning, avoiding costly losses, and taking advantage of the limited GC opportunities available.

Jerseys

Knijnenburg also won the KOM classification, adding the mountains jersey to the overall title. Sofie Van Rooijen, second on GC, won the points classification, while Yelizaveta Sklyarova took the youth classification.

For a flat three-day WorldTour race, the important takeaway is how little margin the route gave GC riders to correct mistakes. With no decisive climbs and no summit finish to create natural separation, the race rewarded riders who could stay present across every flat stage. Knijnenburg did that best, and the final GC reflects it.
