Slovakia rewards patient climbers with a compact but rich catalogue of 15 ascents, rising through dense forest and open mountain country to a high point of 1520 metres. None of them reach hors catégorie, so this is a country for riders who prefer sustained, honest gradients over brutal wall-like efforts. The passes come with a quiet, uncrowded character, letting you settle into a rhythm and read the road as it unfolds beneath the tree line.
The marquee climbs give the region its shape and pull. Čertovica and Hiadeľské sedlo carry riders over well-known saddles, while Volovcovo sedlo, Daxnerovo sedlo and Suchá priehyba string together a varied day of climbing. Zákres rounds out the selection with a distinct profile of its own.
